Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin first in the US to hold accreditation in all diagnostic and radiation oncology disciplines

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology are the first and only practices in the United States to be awarded accreditation in all diagnostic and radiation oncology disciplines and receive designation as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence as a result of reviews by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Radiology accreditation is held by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin in the following disciplines: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT), nuclear medicine & positron emission tomography (PET), breast stereotactic biopsy, breast MRI, breast CT and breast ultrasound imaging.  They also participate in the ACR General Radiology Improvement Database (GRID) and the Dose Index Registry (DIR). Accredited since 1995, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Radiation Oncology program was awarded a new three-year accreditation term in early July.

ACR accreditation represents the pinnacle of radiologic imaging and radiation oncology quality.  These intensive, external third-party review processes involve comprehensive evaluation of program structure and outcomes, as well as validation of excellence among staff, technology, policies and procedures, safety practices, and quality assessment and improvement practices.  Designation by the ACR reflects on the longstanding commitment to excellence by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin.  These voluntary ACR programs exist to help ensure patients have access to high quality and safe radiologic procedures and patient care.

The American College of Radiology is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
