Care Wisconsin now offering Medicare dual advantage in Dane County

MADISON, WIS, NOVEMBER 8, 2016–Care Wisconsin is offering a new Medicare Advantage plan for those who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.

The Care Wisconsin Medicare Dual Advantage plan solves one challenge individuals with Medicaid sometimes face when shopping for Medicare Advantage plans. Unlike other plans, which may require monthly premiums, the Care Wisconsin Medicare Dual Advantage plan has no monthly premium and no plan deductible. It also includes Part D Prescription Drug coverage.

Individuals can enroll in the program now for 2017. Because it is a special needs program (SNP), eligible individuals may apply at any time, not just during open enrollment which is the time at the end of the year when most Medicare beneficiaries are only allowed to make changes to coverage.

Medicare SNPs are a type of Medicare Advantage Plan only available to specific populations. These SNPs tailor their benefits, provider choices, and drug formularies to best meet the specific needs of the groups they serve. The Care Wisconsin Medicare Dual Advantage (HMO SNP) will serve only individuals with both Medicare and Medicaid in Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Jefferson, and Waukesha counties.

“Care Wisconsin has been offering programs like these for 40 years,” said Karen Musser, President and CEO. “We are pleased to offer this additional program, which will help the individuals we have always cared for manage their Medicare and Medicaid benefits.”

Members in Care Wisconsin Medicare Dual Advantage have a care coordinator that helps them with care planning, explain how Medicare and Medicaid benefits work together, sort through paperwork and bills, and schedule appointments. The care coordinator is especially helpful in times when members transition from one service to another, such as a return from the hospital back home.
The plan includes a robust list of brand and generic drugs (formulary). The provider network includes most health care systems so members in Care Wisconsin’s Medicare Dual Advantage will likely be able to continue to see current doctors.
