Aurora plans to open ambulatory surgery center, physician office building in Kenosha

$130 million project to be located near I-94 and Highway 50

Kenosha, Wis. – Aurora Health Care today announced plans to build an ambulatory surgery center and physician office building just west of Interstate 94 and Highway 50 near Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha. The Kenosha Common Council approved the rezoning of property for the project on Wednesday.

The $130 million project will offer services including general surgery, orthopedics and urology. As many as 140 new professional health care jobs could be added as a result.

“As a longtime member of the Kenosha community, Aurora Health Care is always looking for better ways to deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care,” said Doug Koch, president of Aurora’s Racine, Kenosha and Northern Illinois service area. “This facility will provide new and expanded services that will enhance patient access to the care they need.”

The chosen site is a 158-acre parcel located west of I-94 and the 122nd Avenue frontage road between 60th and 71ststreets. The plan includes an approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory care center and a three-story, 100,000-square-foot professional office building. Future expansion on the site would be possible as the health care needs of the community continue to evolve. Additionally, the planning and design of the facility will preserve the site’s woodlands preserve and natural wetlands, allowing care to be provided in a natural and healing environment.

Additional services to be provided include primary care, rehabilitation services, imaging, laboratory services, occupational health, a variety of specialty care services and a pharmacy. A few additional approvals need to be obtained, and Aurora anticipates that work on site will begin this summer and the facility will tentatively open in early 2019.
