WDA Foundation awards more than $50,500 to 19 dental health programs  

WEST ALLIS, WIS., July 20, 2017 –  The Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation has announced $50,528 ingrants and designated funding to 19 programs that bring oral health care to low-income Wisconsin residents and provide other dentistry-related services.

AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin Dental Clinic will use $2,500 to purchase dentures and other prosthodontic items to provide oral care for Wisconsin residents living with HIV and AIDS.

Bread of Healing Clinic annually serves more than 1,500 low-income individuals with chronic health conditions inMilwaukee’s north central neighborhoods. A $4,000 grant will go toward purchasing necessary consumables and equipment to expand capacity of the dental clinic.

Brown County Oral Health Partnership, Inc. is receiving $2,500 to purchase dental equipment, oral supplies and educational materials. The Brown County OHP provides dental care and education to 9,500 children annually.

Chippewa Valley Technical College will use $5,000 to purchase equipment and supplies for its dental clinic and oral health outreach events.

HealthNet of Rock County, Inc. will offset the cost of oral supplies and equipment for its dental clinic with a $2,500 grant.

Healthy Smiles for Portage County is receiving $2,500 to purchase sealant, fluoride, disposable materials and educational materials for this program that serves area school children.

Lake Area Free Clinic serves those who lack health insurance and whose income is below 250 percent of the federal poverty level. It will use its $3,500 grant to cover the cost of purchasing personal oral hygiene supplies.

Madison Dental Initiative will use $2,500 for dental supplies and to offset the cost of dental clinic maintenance.

Ministry Door County Medical Center Dental Clinic inSturgeon Bay provides free oral health care to low-income families in Door and Kewaunee counties. A $2,500 grant will help offset the cost of oral supplies and dental equipment.

North Division Athletic Association will use $2,500 to purchase a new compressor and vacuum system for the dental clinic.

Open Arms Free Clinic is receiving $2,500 to purchase dental supplies and personal oral hygiene supplies to better serve the uninsured, low income and under-served residents of Walworth County.

Rawhide Inc. in New London is a nonprofit, residential care center that welcomes approximately 120 troubled teen boys each year to its program. Rawhide’s young residents will benefit from $2,500 in personal oral hygiene supplies and dental care.

St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care’s Smiles for Sister Lucille Program is receiving $2,395 to purchase a cart for the clinic’s new campus and to purchase supplies for both of its Milwaukee campuses.

St. Croix County Oral Health Coalition consists of concerned citizens and local health professionals interested in improving dental access to St. Croix Countyresidents. A $1,000 WDAF grant will be used to purchase dental and personal oral hygiene supplies.

Shawano Co. Healthy Smiles offers school-based oral health education, dental screenings, fluoride varnish treatments and dental sealants to children of low-income families in Shawano County. They will use $633 to purchase dental supplies and treatment materials.

Tri-County Community Dental Clinic is a predominantly volunteer facility serving individuals in Calumet,Outagamie and Winnebago counties. They will use $4,000 to purchase oral supplies for the clinic’s Focus on the Children program.

A $2,500 grant will be used by Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic to purchase needed supplies for its oral health education and outreach programs.

Donated Dental Services is receiving $3,000 to help the program continue to provide free, comprehensive dental care to Wisconsin adults who cannot work due to a permanent disability, chronic illness or advanced age, and whose needs are not met by public aid programs.

Dentists Concerned for Dentists will use a $2,000 grant to increase awareness of how the program can help dental professionals struggling with alcohol or chemical dependency, depression, infectious diseases and other well-being issues.

The WDA Foundation has distributed more than $690,000 to worthy oral health programs across the state since 2000.

Applications for the WDA Foundation 2018 grant year are being accepted through July 31, 2017.
