Deadline extended to request replacement FoodShare benefits for 17 Counties in southwestern Wisconsin

Replacement FoodShare benefits are available for those who lost food due to the severe weather in southwestern Wisconsin on July 19-21. Governor Scott Walker declared a State of Emergency for 17 Wisconsin counties including Buffalo, Crawford, Dane, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jackson, Juneau, La Crosse, Lafayette, Monroe, Pepin, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Trempealeau and Vernon after severe storms caused damages to these communities.

FoodShare members who lost food due to the severe weather may request replacement benefits for food purchased with July benefits. Due to damages from the storms, some people may have been unable to reach county offices or access their homes; therefore, the Department of Health Services requested a waiver of the 10-day deadline to report lost benefits. The federal Food and Nutrition Service approved the waiver request to allow households sufficient time to report their loss of food in the above counties. FoodShare members in the affected counties have until August 21, 2017, to report lost benefits as a result of the July 19-21 storms, and request a replacement for the amount of the loss, not to exceed the monthly allotment for the household.
