Representative John Nygren receives WISCA “Legislator of the Year” award

Representative Nygren recognized for his efforts to help improve healthcare delivery in Wisconsin

Marinette – Today, the Association of Wisconsin Surgery Centers (WISCA) presented State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) with the organization’s Legislator of the Year award at the Bellin Health Surgery Center located in Marinette. The WISCA Legislator of the Year Award recognizes a state legislator who advocates for and champions policies to support ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and the patients they serve in Wisconsin.
Currently, there are over 70 surgery centers across Wisconsin that perform a variety of procedures on tens of thousands of Wisconsin patients. ASCs are a growing sector in the health care delivery system because they provide the highest quality care in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

In the 2017-2018 legislative session, Representative Nygren was instrumental in forging a compromise between a variety of stakeholders resulting in the removal of the Ambulatory Surgery Center tax while maintaining sustainable funding at ASCs who provide services to MA patients. “Without Representative Nygren’s guidance in the budget on this issue, this compromise could not have been achieved. ASCs across the state are thankful for his contributions that led to a win-win outcome for the ASCs and the patients who use them,” said WISCA President Brian Grochowski.

WISCA appreciates Representative Nygren’s dedication and assistance to helping surgery centers statewide strengthen their important and necessary role in delivering health care to Wisconsinites.
