29 Wisconsinites return home from Grand Princess cruise

Gov. Tony Evers said Monday that 29 Wisconsin residents aboard the Grand Princess cruise were transported back to Wisconsin late Sunday night.

Wisconsin National Guard members transported them back to their homes for self-quarantine.

None of the returning Wisconsin passengers have tested positive for the coronavirus as of Monday and all are asymptomatic, the governor’s statement noted. They’ll follow state and federal protocols and self-quarantine for 14 days.

Last week, Evers said the state was working to bring the passengers home.

More than 3,500 were on board the ship that docked last week in California after several passengers tested positive for the virus. Evers’ Monday statement said that there were 21 cases on the cruise.

Two passengers remain in Texas under the custody of the federal Department of Health and Human Services for personal reasons, and the state is working with HHS to return home seven Wisconsin passengers who remain in the federal agency’s custody, according to the statement.
