Children’s Wisconsin reports doctor with COVID-19

A doctor at Children’s Wisconsin has tested positive for COVID-19, the provider said Wednesday. The provider has mild symptoms, is quarantined at home and recovering.

The doctor was exposed to a person who tested positive for the virus in connection with travel outside the state before restrictions were in effect.

Children’s is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Health Services and the Wauwatosa Health Department to identify and contact all staff and patient families with exposure.

Children’s are giving patient families individualized instructions and support for their needs, as well as instructing staff on next steps, ranging from monitoring symptoms, self-quarantine or testing.

“We have seen this happen at healthcare organizations across the nation, and we knew it was only a matter of time before we had a confirmed case on our team,” a statement from the provider noted. “Every COVID-19 case underscores the need for all of us to stay vigilant in the face of the virus, while offering support and care to all those who need it in our community.”
