Dane County shifts to next phase of reopening

Dane County shifted to its next phase of reopening on Monday, allowing for all businesses to reopen to 50 percent capacity and capping indoor gatherings at 50 people.

Outdoor gatherings are capped at 100 people. Playgrounds, splash pads, park courts and fields are also open.

Public and private schools will also be open for pupil instruction and extracurricular activities as of July 1.

Local health officials continue to monitor key metrics, including an increase in the average number of new cases per day.

“With these trends, we’re reminded that while the phase has changed, the virus still hasn’t,” Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said in a statement. “The virus is still as infectious and dangerous as it has always been.”

There is no end date for the second phase. The county will be in it for at least two weeks but could be in for much longer, according to a statement from Public Health Madison & Dane County.

There were 956 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Sunday afternoon in Dane County. There were 30 deaths.
