Wisconsin Association of Health Plans Expands Advocacy Focus, Welcomes Lakeland Care to Membership

MADISON – Effective January 1, 2023, the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans has expanded its advocacy focus to include Medicaid long-term care issues. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) administers Medicaid long-term care programs – such as Family Care, Family Care Partnership, and Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) – for older adults and adults with disabilities.

This advocacy expansion brings the addition of Lakeland Care, Inc., a Managed Care Organization that serves Wisconsin’s Family Care program, to the Association membership. The expansion also strengthens the Association’s advocacy efforts on behalf of My Choice Wisconsin, a long-standing Association member.

“We are excited to expand our advocacy focus in a way that will better serve our member health plans and, ultimately, the people of Wisconsin,” said John Nygren, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans. “My Choice Wisconsin and Lakeland Care provide vital services and supports to members of their communities, and we look forward to supporting their efforts to continue delivering high-quality care to the Wisconsinites who rely on them.”

The Wisconsin Association of Health Plans is the voice of 12 community-based health plans that provide health insurance coverage in every county of the state to individuals, employers, and government programs. Association members collectively fully-insure more than 1.3 million Wisconsin residents.

Lakeland Care, Inc. is a non-profit Managed Care Organization (MCO) that provides long-term care supports to eligible frail elders and individuals with physical and intellectual/developmental disabilities through Wisconsin’s Family Care program. Lakeland Care is based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and partners with over 1,000 local providers to provide care for members across 22 counties and two Tribes in Northeast and North Central Wisconsin.

My Choice Wisconsin is a Wisconsin-based MCO with five programs – Family Care, Partnership, Medicaid SSI, BadgerCare Plus, and Medicare Dual Advantage – that serve low-income individuals, frail seniors, and adults with disabilities in over 50 counties. A homegrown non-profit, My Choice Wisconsin works collaboratively with local agencies and health care providers to ensure its members have ample choices and high-quality support and services from a diverse network.
