Aurora Health Care earns national honors for environmental stewardship

Aurora Health Care has been awarded multiple environmental sustainability awards from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to sustainability in health care.

Advocate Health – Midwest, which comprises Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin and Advocate Health Care in Illinois, earned the System for Change Award. The award recognizes health care organizations that lead in sustainability performance across a range of categories, including energy management, buildings, waste reduction, sustainable purchasing and more. The system also won the Circle of Excellence Award for Chemicals, which recognizes sound practices for addressing chemicals of concern.

“We’ve identified sustainability as a key area where we want to have a substantial impact. These awards recognize the hard work our teammates have put in to make their care sites and communities more environmentally friendly,” Advocate Health – Midwest President Bill Santulli said. “From the air that fills our lungs to the chemicals we encounter every day, there is a direct connection between environmental health and personal health. Part of helping people live well every day is doing our part to make sure the communities we serve are greener places to live.”

In addition to the system-wide awards, eligible acute care hospitals earned the individual Partner for Change Award, which is presented to hospitals for superior performance in environmental sustainability, covering a range of different sustainability programs and activities.
