Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin helps fight hunger for local residents in need

Molina Teamed Up With Local CBOs To Feed More Than 4,600 Individuals in 2016

Milwaukee, WI – (February 2, 2017) — To help combat hunger, a problem that 50 million people in the United States face every day, Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin sponsored 23 food pantry events across the state in 2016. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one in nine Wisconsin households struggle with food insecurity. Molina partnered with Feeding America and various local organizations to help provide free groceries to more than 4,600 individuals throughout the last year.

“Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin is pleased to have dedicated over 225,000 pounds of food to those in our community throughout the last year,” said Babette Honore, director of community outreach at Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin. “It is truly inspiring to see the thankful faces of the children and families we serve and we are looking forward to continuing this work throughout 2017.”

Employee volunteers distributed free groceries to more than 200 individuals at each of the twenty one events hosted in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Oshkosh, Appleton, Wausau and Racine. Partners included local churches, Boys and Girls Clubs and other community based organizations. In addition to the food giveaways, some of the events offered attendees health education materials and the opportunity to exercise on Molina’s popular smoothie bike to create a nutritious refreshment.

Molina employees participated in the food pantry events as part of the company’s Helping Hands employee volunteer program. Its purpose is to encourage Molina employees to get involved in their community by providing paid time off to do direct volunteer work with local organizations such as homeless shelters, food banks and after-school programs.
