Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley offers next generation of robotic surgery in knee and hip replacements

APPLETON, Wis. (June 2, 2017) – Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley is the first surgery center in northeast Wisconsin to offer Stryker’s Mako™ Robotic-Arm Assisted Partial Knee, Total Hip and Total Knee replacement procedures. This latest advancement in robotic technology changes the way these surgeries are performed.

Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery is a new surgical approach to joint replacement and offers a higher level of customization for implant alignment and positioning. More than 83,000 Mako hip and knee replacements have been performed. The technology allows surgeons to create a patient-specific 3D plan that uses a CT scan to guide the reconstruction plan, taking into account each patient’s specific anatomy and ligament balance, to complete the surgery with a high degree of accuracy. Studies have shown robotic-arm assisted partial knee replacements to be two to three times more accurate than manual partial knee replacement procedures.

“It’s exciting to be able to offer such a transformational surgery option for our patients seeking to get joint replacement surgery and help them get back to the lifestyle they deserve,” said Dr. Padraic Obma, a surgeon at Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley who serves patients in the Green Bay region. “During surgery, the cutting-edge technology allows the surgeon to accurately execute the pre-operative patient specific anatomic plan by guiding the robotic-arm.”

Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley also offers Recovery Inn, a one of a kind recovery facility for patients, following surgery. The facility is designed like a five-star hotel with a focus on privacy and comfort, all while providing personalized care to ensure the patient’s complete healing. Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley is an expert in replacement surgery with over 900 procedures performed within the last year and an infection rate of 0.2 percent.

Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley will offer the same price structure for total joint replacement whether a patient chooses to receive the joint with or without the robotic technology. This is part of its commitment to offer the latest innovation while maintaining its competitive edge in the region.

The Mako Technology is offered by OSI physicians located throughout the Fox Cities including Dr. Errol Springer, Dr. David Eggert, Dr. Padraic Obma and Dr. Ken Schaufelberger. Patients can request an appointment for a Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery consultation by visiting www.osifv.com or by calling 920-560-1000.
