Aurora Health Care to contribute $500,000 to support youth sports fields in Sheboygan

MILWAUKEE — Aurora Health Care today announced it will make a one-time $500,000 contribution to help improve athletic fields at two sites in Sheboygan – Horace Mann Middle School and the athletic fields at Saemann Avenue and Taylor Drive.

At Horace Mann, the gift will be used to upgrade fields, improve player safety and add soccer fields. This will include tiling – adding a drainage system – and converting two softball fields to soccer fields on the east side of the complex. The funding will further help build a concession stand, restroom and storage, also on the east side of the complex.

Meanwhile, at the athletic fields at Saemann and Taylor, Aurora’s donation will be used to upgrade fields and improve player safety by regrading and reseeding all three baseball fields.

“Athletic fields are gathering places not just for student athletes but also for the whole community,” said Dave Graebner, president of Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. “What’s more, these sites encourage a commitment to sportsmanship, exercise and living well, all lessons that can last a lifetime. We’re proud to support efforts of the Sheboygan Area School District to make the most of these fields.”

“We are very grateful for Aurora Health Care’s donation, which the School Board will allocate toward significant improvements to our soccer and baseball fields,” said Dr. Joseph Sheehan, superintendent of the Sheboygan Area School District. “Improving player safety on our fields is the main focus of our soccer and baseball field upgrade project.”

According to the district, work on the soccer and baseball fields is expected to begin at the conclusion of spring sports in 2018 and be complete by the end of the year.
