A proposal to make contributions to Health Savings Accounts exempt from Wisconsin state taxes is scheduled to be taken up by both the state Assembly and Senate on Thursday, the AP reports. Wisconsin joins health care challenge

Wisconsin is officially challenging the federal health care law. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that Wisconsin has taken the initial step to join the legal challenge currently pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Five other states have also recently jumped on board, bringing the total to 26. Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Wyoming and Maine are also requesting to join the suit. (WHN, 1/18)

Cost of hospital visits jumps as ThedaCare and Affinity implement new rates

Overall hospital rates — which do not include clinical care— at Theda Clark, Appleton Medical Center and New London Family Medical Center rose an average of 3 percent. Riverside Medical Center, which ThedaCare also operates, had a 3.5 percent rate increase. Hospital rate hikes are as common as seasonal changes as care providers also are faced with rising business costs and need additional revenues.
