Madison–Governor Walker released the following statement today following the announcement from the Medical College of Wisconsin that it is moving forward on plans to build two new community-based medical schools in Wisconsin.

“I applaud the Medical College of Wisconsin for tackling the need for additional physician training in Wisconsin.  While addressing shortages of health care professionals will require many individual solutions, adding medical schools in Northeast and Central Wisconsin over the next several years is a terrific step toward meeting Wisconsin’s health care needs, particularly in less populated areas of our state.  I am especially appreciative of the Medical College’s inclusive process which included reaching out to inform and solicit input from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.”

The new medical campuses will be built in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin, with a goal of admitting the first group of medical students to the new campuses as early as the summer of 2015.  For more information on the plan, go to www.mcw.edu.
