MADISON, Wis. – Agrace has been recognized by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) for its commitment to ensuring veterans have access to quality end-of-life care that meets their unique needs. The local, nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization today announced that it has achieved Partner Level Two status through NHPCO’s We Honor Veterans program.
Hospices can receive We Honor Veterans designations by completing activities for each of the four levels of commitment. This enables U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs staff and veterans to easily identify hospices that have made a commitment to offer veteran-specific care and services provided by a competent and highly skilled workforce, according to NHPCO.
“It surprises many people to learn that one out of every four dying Americans is a veteran. These men and women deserve recognition for their military service—particularly during the end-of-life journey,” said Natasha Weberg, Agrace director of outreach. “By recognizing veterans’ unique needs through the tools provided by the We Honor Veterans program, Agrace can accompany and guide these men and women and their loved ones toward a more positive and peaceful end-of-life experience.”
Through the We Honor Veterans program, Agrace staff use a comprehensive list of questions to learn more about the veteran’s military service and any implications their service may have for the care to be provided, including challenges from illness, isolation or traumatic life experiences. Educational materials available through the program ensure staff are prepared to meet veterans’ unique needs.
