Security Health Plan awards $134,000 for community and child health programs

MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., today announced 17 recipients of Healthy Communities Mini-Grants, an investment of $134,000 in the members and communities it serves.

“Security Health Plan believes in the value of partnerships to improve the health and well-being of our communities and our neighbors,” said Chief Administrative Officer Steve Youso. “These mini-grants are another way Security Health Plan is investing responsibly in programs that address significant, local health issues. These investments push these focuses beyond the walls of our doctors’ offices and health care facilities, and into the communities we serve.”

The mini-grants are presented to nonprofit organizations focused on three health issues that need greater attention – children’s health, behavioral health and health literacy.

To evaluate mini-grant applications, Security Health Plan teamed with leaders already working on these health priorities, said Jason Shrader, community benefits and prevention program manager at Security Health Plan.

“We’re really excited about the programs we’re supporting,” Shrader said. “The Wisconsin Rapids Boys and Girls Club’s Triple Play program promotes eating smart, keeping fit and forming relationships that add up to health lifestyles. In Barron County, there’s an effort to break through the stigma preventing people from getting help with mental health and addiction problems. In Marathon County we’ll help support a pilot program that promotes social and emotional screening for elementary-aged school children.”

Healthy Communities Mini-Grant recipients are:

  • Boys and Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids
  • Barron County Health Department
  • Burnett Medical Center
  • Chippewa County Department of Public Health
  • Clark County Health Department
  • Columbus Catholic Schools – Marshfield
  • Eau Claire City/County Health Department
  • Iowa County Health Department
  • Juneau County Health Department
  • Literacy Network – Madison
  • Marathon County Special Education Consortium
  • NuGenesis, Inc. – Oconomowoc
  • Oneida County Health Department
  • Portage County Health and Human Services
  • Scenic Rivers Area Health Education Center
  • Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission
  • Together for Jackson County Kids

“These organizations are embarking on projects that will touch communities in a variety of ways.” Youso said. “I know that I speak for our Security Health Plan family when I say that we’re looking forward to seeing the fruits of this partnership.”
