SSM Health Care of Wisconsin Hospitals Receive Wisconsin Forward Award of Excellence
First Organization to Receive the Excellence Award in Wisconsin Since 2009
Madison, Wis., - SSM Health Care of Wisconsin (SSMHC/WI) walked away with top honors last night where the organization accepted the Wisconsin Forward Award of Excellence. This marks the first time SSMHC/WI has received the Excellence Award and only the second time the organization applied together as a region. It’s also the first Wisconsin organization since 2009 to receive the Excellence Award. The application included St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison, St. Clare Hospital and St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.
Receiving recognition at the level of excellence means SSM Health Care of Wisconsin hospitals have management excellence with superior results that are clearly evident.
In congratulating the organization, Wisconsin Forward Award examiners said, “SSMHC/WI demonstrates several best practices, including the system-wide organizational ethics effort, its Corporate Responsibility Process (CRP), the Steal Shamelessly program, and the Emerging Leaders program. The CRP is recognized nationally as a best practice.”
Examiners also said, “SSMHC/WI demonstrates visionary leadership through embedding of its mission, vision, and values into its organizational culture,” adding, “The organization maintains a focus on results and creating value as evidenced by financial stability within a challenging industry and uncertain reimbursement climate.”

Wisconsin Forward Award, the state’s premier organization for the promotion and recognition of high-performance practices, honored the accomplishments of hundreds of Wisconsin organizations last night that have benefited from the program’s services and learning opportunities, as well as the tens of thousands of hours of service that its Volunteer Board of Examiners has contributed.
