Wisconsin Citizens Asked to Donate iPods to Help Dementia Patients

MADISON – As a part of National Nursing Home Week, which runs from May 11 to 18, Wisconsin’s skilled nursing facility provider associations are asking members of the public to donate their new or used Apple iPod MP3 Players for use in the memory care of residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia in Wisconsin’s long-term care facilities.

UW Hospital and Clinics board approves 5 percent rate increase

The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics will raise rates 5 percent next budget year after its board signed off on the price increase at a meeting last week. Spokeswomen Lisa Brunette said the average gross percentage increase, which is in line with previous years, is needed because of increased costs and the need to offset inadequate reimbursement from government payers. Brunette also said that very few payers reimburse solely on the basis of charges. (WHN, 5/12)

Walker's entitlement reforms produce Medicaid net gain of 19,000

Gov. Scott Walker's changes to eligibility have resulted in a net gain of 18,955 more impoverished Wisconsinites securing health coverage under the state's Medicaid program, the governor announced Monday. In total, 81,731 childless adults earning below 100 percent of the federal poverty line gained coverage through BadgerCare, but 62,776 adults above that line lost their Medicaid benefits.
