Aspirus hospice program achieves highest level in program for veterans

WAUSAU, Wis. – Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services (ACCHS) is a national partner of We Honor Veterans, and recently received Partner Level Four status.

According to the We Honor Veterans program, nearly a quarter of all Americans who die each year are veterans. Developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the program is designed to empower hospice professionals to meet the unique needs of dying veterans.

Level Four status is the highest partner level a hospice program can achieve.

“Many of the people we care for are veterans who have unique life experiences and emotional trauma that we need to be respectful of,” said Laura Pearson, RN, director of ACCHS. “By advancing through the We Honor Veterans program, our staff has gained additional awareness and appreciation for the needs of veterans.”

We Honor Veterans provides tiered recognition to organizations that demonstrate a systematic commitment to improving care for Veterans. Partner Level Four status means that ACCHS has successfully provided veteran-centric education to staff, volunteers and the community, built Aspirus’ capacity to provide quality care to veterans, and developed and strengthened relationships with Veterans Affairs medical centers and other veteran organizations.
