Elections underway for Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative Board

BROOKFIELD — Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative (CGHC), a nonprofit, member-governed insurance cooperative, has begun the process of electing its 2018 Board of Directors.

“Our members are the most important part of our cooperative,” said Cathy Mahaffey, CGHC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Cooperatives are about service to their members, which is why the annual election for our Board of Directors is so important. Anyone that chooses CGHC gains a financial stake and a democratic vote in our decision-making process.”

In the beginning of the year, CGHC members were encouraged to nominate themselves, or other qualified members, to serve as Board Directors. A total of five new candidates and two incumbents were selected by the CGHC nominating committee to stand for election. The five candidates who receive the most votes in the contested election will become part of the 2018 Board, serving staggered terms of two to three years.

Eligible voting members should receive their ballots in the mail this week. “This year’s nominees were a group of incredibly talented members,” said Mahaffey. “Now it is up to our members to choose the candidates they believe will best serve the cooperative.”

The election remains open until May 22, the date of the member annual meeting hosted by CGHC. All CGHC members age 18 and older who are in good standing are eligible to vote by mailing in their ballot or casting their vote in person at the annual meeting.
