2015 WAWH women’s health leader awardees announced
Women of courage, character and commitment to be honored at the sixth Wisconsin Women’s Health Policy Summit
Madison – The Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health (WAWH) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2015 WAWH Women’s Health Leader Awards. The three honorees will be recognized at our 6th Annual Wisconsin Women’s Health Policy Summit on Tuesday, March 10th at the Monona Terrace in Madison. The Woman of Courage Award will be presented to Teri Huyck, CEO of Planned Parenthood of
Wisconsin. She was nominated for dedicating her life to ensure people have quality, safe, compassionate care they need and deserve and because she does this work knowing it comes with risk of threat and intimidation on a fairly regular basis. Her nomination included the following testimony:
“Despite the challenging political times we are in and the relentless attack on women and reproductive
health, Teri remains unflustered. She is willing to do what needs to be done to keep PPWI’s services available and accessible.”
The Woman of Commitment Award will be presented to Dawn Anderson, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition. She was nominated in part because of she doesn’t give up or give in and continues to educate and advocate for breast cancer issues at the individual, community, state and Federal levels. Her nomination included the following testimony:
“She works hard so the future generations won’t have to go through this. Her positive attitude and
energy is contagious and she truly is the backbone of our organization.”
The Woman of Character Award will be presented to Lisa Peyton Caire, Founder & President of the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness. She was nominated in recognition of her amazing ability to raise the community’s consciousness on the issue of health disparities impacting Black women and their communities. Her nomination included the following testimony:
“Lisa has taken the discussion of “health” amongst Black women and others in Madison from a whisper,
to a movement. Women are now walking together, talking together, supporting each other and becoming healthier together”
