Physician Compass welcomes new technology and implementation manager

Nov. 6, 2017—Madison, Wis.—Physician Compass is not only expanding its customer base, the healthcare data reporting company also is growing its team with the addition of Josh Cowdy, its new technology and implementation manager. Prior to joining the Physician Compass team, Cowdy was director of physician efficiency at Epic, the creator of the most widely used electronic health record system.

Physician Compass is excited to add Cowdy and his healthcare technology expertise to the team. As Technology and Implementation Manager, Cowdy is responsible for driving the direction of software development and technology at Physician Compass.

“Josh’s experience and understanding of healthcare technology were driving reasons we wanted him to join our team,” said Chris Kleine, chief administrative officer at Physician Compass. “There is a growing demand for healthcare providers and medical groups to report quality metrics and use them to drive improvements in patient care. Josh’s tech experience will enhance our programs and help clinical teams meet new expectations.”

Physician Compass, founded by the Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality and the Wisconsin Hospital Association, has been active in helping more than 8,000 providers make the transition from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Systems’ (CMS) Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) to the new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) to prepare for the March 31, 2018 submission deadline set by CMS.

Providers across the country are seeking a solution to these new quality data reporting requirements. Physician Compass guides providers through submission of MIPS data so they comply with federal law and are well positioned to improve the quality of patient care and quality for value-based payments. The company is looking to further enhance its reporting solutions—that’s where Cowdy comes in.

“Physician Compass is a growing and agile company. I’m excited to join its team in pushing boundaries to create new quality reporting solutions that ensure easy reporting and maximized payment incentives to make providers’ lives easier,” said Cowdy.

In his role at Epic, Cowdy gained an understanding of the healthcare IT market and how regulatory programs impact physicians. He managed a team of developers responsible for creating a new product that allowed organizations to take a data-driven approach to improve provider efficiency. Under his management, this program eventually grew to cover more than 75 percent of Epic clients in just two years. He hopes to carry this experience onto Physician Compass to enhance the company.

Cowdy earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Marquette University. When he is not at work, he enjoys staying active by chasing after his two-year-old son, cycling and running.
