DHS: No plans for Arkansas-like Medicaid proposal

During Wednesday’s budget briefing, Medicaid director Brett Davis said he talked Tuesday with Arkansas’s Medicaid director. In a follow-up interview with Wisconsin Health News, department spokesperson Stephanie Smiley said that the state was committed to Governor Scott Walker’s current proposal, and “there are no plans to implement the Arkansas model in Wisconsin.” (WHN, 3/21)

Ozaukee tops 2013 County Health Rankings

Ozaukee is the state's healthiest county, according to the 2013 County Health Rankings released today by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The state's five healthiest counties are, in order: Ozaukee, Kewaunee, St. Croix, Pierce, and Door. Menominee is the least healthiest county, followed by Milwaukee, Marquette, Adams, and Forest. Columbia St. Mary's, ProHealth Care to develop joint cardiothoracic surgery program

Facing strong competition from Aurora Health Care and Froedtert Health, Columbia St. Mary's and ProHealth Care announced Tuesday plans to develop a joint cardiothoracic surgery program that would be staffed and overseen by a medical center with a national reputation in the specialty. John Robertstad, president of the hospital division of ProHealth, said the partnership has requested proposals from more than a dozen medical centers, such as Cleveland Clinic, Indiana University and Duke University.
